VIRGINIA HIGHLANDS. Fans of folk art should make this local favorite their first stop. For more than a decade, this gallery has gone off the beaten path to find self-taught and folk artists who don't typically get the recognition they deserve. Although it continues to find these "outsider" artists, the gallery has now expanded to cover the contemporary art scene in Atlanta as well. Past shows have included "Scratching the Surface," which featured works by 12 artists and focused on their unique approaches to surface manipulation.
